One of my dad's favorite stories to tell was about my blessing day. As usual he picked out my name but didn't really tell anyone what it was going to be, instead he joked that he was going to name me a Spanish name meaning "the ultimate end". In church he filled out two blessing cards. One with my real name and the above one.
My grandma Swasey was sitting behind him trying to get a glance at what my real name would be...but my dad had other ideas and would be holding the "fake" card. When the Bishop got up to announce the blessing's he could not pronounce my name and just said Dean & Ardell's new baby. It was then that whispering went down the row "he's really going to do it".
Lucky for me it was just a trick.
I loved hearing my dad tell the story of my blessing day, and finally finding the "faker" card made me squeal with delight!
I am pretty sure the fake name does not mean "the ultimate end" in any language.

What a fun story! I love it! And that you found the card is even better, you better hold onto that, your kids will get a kick out of it one day.
What a funny Dad!
That is too funny!!! I never heard that story before. Thanks for sharing it!
What a great story. You have such a fun family. No wonder where your personality came from. Good thing they kept that card! It is awesome!
That is awesome. I had no idea your dad was so funny.
I think "The Ultimate End" is a good nickname for you. I think I'll start using it.
That is funny!
Actually in spanish it would be "el fin ultima" bu ti know dad was thinking about that Spang-Japa-Nish that he learned well he was in Japan & San Diego After the War.
Know tell us why it is the ultimate end? You left out half the story.
This explains so much!!! I love this story, and I too am so glad that you have the fake card in your possession so that you can giggle and remember your Dad! At least now I know where you get your sneaky, trick pulling antics!!! Like I said, this explains so much!!!
